The Regulated Learner is a practical professional training program for educators, school leaders, daycare providers, youth workers, coaches, counsellors, parents, and carers who want practical, evidence-informed tools they can use immediately.

Lou’s workshop was absolutely incredible. I learned so much, not only about bringing nervous system regulation practices to children, but also about myself.

Organisations we’ve worked with:

Supporting young people feels harder than ever

If you’ve spent any time supporting young people, you’ve likely noticed things have changed.

Anxiety is rising, emotional overwhelm is becoming more common and attention spans are shrinking.

Many young people are finding it harder to manage big emotions, navigate challenges, and cope with the pressures of modern life.

As the adults supporting them, we want to help, but many of us were never taught how.

We were taught how to manage behaviour.

We were taught how to deliver curriculum.

We were taught how to solve problems.

But very few of us were taught how to understand what sits beneath behaviour and how to support emotional regulation in ways that are practical, compassionate, and effective.

That’s where The Regulated Learner comes in.

What if there was a different way?

What if behaviour wasn’t something to manage?

What if it was something to understand?

What if emotional outbursts weren’t a sign that a young person was “difficult”?

What if they were a sign that a young person needed support?

When we understand what sits beneath behaviour, everything changes.

We stop reacting.

We start responding.

We stop focusing solely on what we can see.

We begin understanding what a young person may be experiencing.

And that shift creates the foundation for meaningful and lasting change.

Why The Regulated Learner Works

Through a practical four-module framework, you’ll learn how to better understand what sits beneath behaviour, create safe and supportive environments, and help young people develop the emotional regulation, resilience, and self-awareness they need to thrive.

Designed for educators, school leaders, daycare providers, youth workers, coaches, counsellors, parents, and carers, the program combines evidence-informed learning with practical implementation tools you can begin using immediately.

Because learning is one thing.

Implementation is another.

And meaningful change happens when understanding turns into action.

What Participants Are Saying

The course was undertaken at a beautiful venue, thoroughly organised, great communication and professionally run. The information given was very informative and useful not only for the course, but also going forward. When I became emotional, Lou was intuitively supportive but not too much in my space. Thanks for a great experience. I’d attend another!

We brought a team of police officers to Lou for a breath workshop and ice bath experience. The feedback from the team was that the breath workshop was an eye opener and they learned techniques that they could all take back and utilise in their day-to-day. The ice bath gave us an opportunity for personal growth, team cohesion and created a shared experience we could look back on. Lou was easy, approachable and great to deal with.

Meet Your Trainer

The Regulated Learner was created for The Healing Centre of Australia by our consultant, Lou.

Lou Porter

Lou

Lou is a high school educator, Master Breathwork Instructor, and former military Psychological Examiner.

After 11 years working in military psychology with elite soldiers, Lou developed deep expertise in how the nervous system responds under pressure and in high-stress environments.

Today she brings those same evidence-informed principles into schools, organisations, and communities, helping people better understand emotional regulation, resilience, behaviour, and wellbeing.

Known for her grounded, engaging, and relatable teaching style, Lou creates safe and supportive learning environments where participants gain both a deeper understanding of what sits beneath behaviour and practical strategies they can immediately implement.

What People Say About Learning From Lou

{

Lou is incredible. I have had the opportunity to do two breathwork sessions with Lou and each time they have been amazing. As a neurologist myself her explanation of the neurology of breathing and what it does is so precise and so simple. I love her work and will be back for more.
