Reiki is a gentle, holistic healing practice designed to support your body’s natural ability to balance itself and feel relaxed. It actually originated in Japan and is rooted in the belief that your body has its own “life force” or energy that flows through it all day, every day. When you’re feeling stressed or your body is tense, this “life force” can become blocked and not flow very well.
Reiki helps to “unblock” this flow of energy and that can feel like a more relaxed mind and a still, quieter space inside of you (yes, it does exist!). Our Reiki sessions are available online or in-person over 60 or 90 minutes and there’s nothing for you to “do” other than to lie, fully clothed, on a comfortable massage table (in person) or a space in your own home.
DOES REIKI ACTUALLY WORK?
If you’ve never tried something like Reiki before, it can be hard to understand it. This is because, just like many holistic practices, it is an experience rather than something that can be easily defined and described.
The thing is though, Reiki has been around for literally thousands of years. And our belief is that if something has been around that long, there’s something to it. Tools and practices that don’t “work” or are not at least “helpful” in some way, are generally just a fad and don’t usually last that long.
But the reality is that Reiki has gained a lot of recognition within the wellness community as an effective tool for stress management and emotional support. While Reiki is considered an “energy healing” practice, studies show its potential to promote relaxation, reduce stress and improve mood, making it a valuable addition to your wellness routine.
But don’t just take our word for it, try it out for yourself and make that call!
We get it. Life is tough sometimes—and it can leave you feeling drained mentally and physically. Reiki offers a supportive, restorative approach to wellness, especially when you’re feeling stressed, fatigued or just have a lot going on.
Here’s how Reiki can support you:
Reiki calms the nervous system, helping you to feel more present, focused and balanced.
Reiki can help you navigate life’s transitions and challenges, creating a sense of calm and peace.
As the body relaxes, physical tension is released which encourages a slower, more calm, mind.
When life gets overwhelming, Reiki can reset and re-energise your system, helping you to find your centre again.
Reiki offers a gentle space for self-reflection and personal insight, allowing you to lean inwards and explore your inner landscape.
While Reiki can be used on its own, it is also a great addition to other wellness practices, such as meditation and mindfulness, supporting a balanced, well-rounded approach to health.
We know that trying new things or doing something you haven’t done before can make you feel a little uneasy. That’s why we go out of our way to ensure that you feel comfortable and cosy during a session.
Your Reiki session can be online or in-person (at a location to be confirmed with you) and you’ll spend the session in a quiet, private room designed specifically for 1:1 treatments with a comfy massage table. You’ll lie down fully clothed on your back and your Reiki practitioner will check you’re comfortable and give you any extra blankets or cushions you may need. They will explain how the session will unfold and give you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have.
To start with, your Reiki practitioner will gently place their hands just above, or lightly touch specific areas of your body. Many people describe a feeling of warmth, safety and a sense of lightness as their mind and body softens into a welcome space of relaxation.
I loved the sound healing session with Ange and Grant – it was calming, relaxing and allowed me to step away from my thoughts and be fully present in the moment. It’s not often that I take 90 minutes to just be, so I found the experience to be the ultimate self-care. Highly recommend!
“I just want to give a massive shout-out to Angela Henderson. I just got back from her Bali retreat and it was amazing. I feel so inspired and refreshed. I have been on several retreats before and this was by far the best. It was exactly what I needed to feel refreshed and come back feeling motivated and aligned. Thank you, Ange”.
“Ange and Grant’s Silent Retreat was everything I never knew I needed. I signed up as a challenge
because it didn’t seem like the kind of thing I wanted to do, but in reality, it was the kindest thing I have ever done for myself. The retreat was THE ultimate self- care, nourishing and delicious food, an agenda with activities that were good for the soul and an opportunity to connect with an amazing group of people (albeit non-verbally!). Thank you to all
involved in the planning, I cannot wait for next year.”
While both practices promote relaxation, Reiki is less invasive because you remain fully clothed. Massage works more with the physical body using varying degrees of pressure and stroke techniques on different parts of your body, while Reiki works with your “life force” which supports with your whole body, mind (and spirit) at the same time
It’s important to look for a certified, experienced practitioner who provides a calm, welcoming environment. Reiki training is offered as different “levels” so finding a practitioner with at least a level 2 training means they have not just the knowledge, but also the experience to work sensitively and confidently with you.
A typical Reiki session lasts between 60 and 90 minutes, which allows plenty of time to get comfortable, receive the gentle energy healing, and take some time before moving into the next part of your day.
There’s no one right answer to this question as it depends on you and what you need. For some, monthly sessions are beneficial, while others may prefer more frequent visits. After your session, your reiki practitioner will offer you some feedback to help you to understand what to look for when deciding whether it’s time to have another session.
